A Grand affair – spa day review

It’s a hard job, but someone has to do it. Frida Clementz and Sam Harrington-Lowe were first in to try the Grand Brighton’s new spa products and treatments…

Continuing our quest to try some of the very best, here we investigate the luxury of a spa day at The Grand Hotel, Brighton.

Anyone who has been to the spa at The Grand Hotel Brighton will know how big the venue is inside – but newcomers will be surprised. Its labyrinthine twists and turns take you through changing rooms, into the enormous relaxation suite with its sofas and beds, and round the thermal suite. It’s easy to feel like Alice as you explore.

cut1-SpaThe changing rooms are decorated in light colours and after changing into a comfy robe and slippers, we were shown around the spa and introduced to the new product line, the Natural Spa Factory. The relaxing areas are luxurious and grand, lovely wallpaper, lighting, drapes, sofas and beds.

It’s easy to hang out here for a while with a glass of bubbly, relaxing and reading one of the magazines supplied. Then you’re gently woken up from your day dreaming by the lovely therapist and taken for your treatment.

The treatment rooms follow the same mood as the rest of the spa; comfortable, leisurely and just a little luxurious. We tried a couple of treatments…

Frida – the Illuminating Facial
(60 minutes) £80
This starts off with an indulgent foot scrub. I was also asked what kind of massage I would like during the face mask and I choose my feet as it’s one of my favourite types. The products used during the facial all felt very refreshing and had a soft but uplifting sensation. The face mask felt cooling and a bit like jelly, and while that was working on my face I received such a lovely foot massage that it made me decide on the spot that I would come back for that alone. After my treatment my skin felt truly illuminated, and honestly looked really radiant.

Sam – ‘A Dip in the Sea’
(65 minutes) £90
This is a really excellent experience for anyone planning a night out later, or who likes a bit of pampering but doesn’t want to spend hours lying down. The facial is lovely – cleanse, scrub, mask, moisturising massage – and the products smell and feel really light and fresh. Sometimes after facials I feel like I want to just go and wash my face straight afterwards, but not this time. I then had both a pedicure and a manicure – ah, the heaven of the pedicure, it’s one of my favourite things ever! And I left with pretty fingers and toes! A lovely treatment

cutIMG_6458As a day spa experience this is actually the perfect de-stresser that won’t take up your whole weekend. Just being in the spa feels like a treat and next time we decided we’d stay longer and enjoy lunch there too!
