A Marathon weekend for everyone

The Brighton Marathon offers more than running

At the Brighton Marathon weekend there are two event villages with as much action on tap for family and friends as there is for participants.  Both villages are free to enter.

On Saturday 11 April from 10am in Preston Park, while the Mini Milers are charging round the circuit supporters can enjoy a host of things to see and do. The whole family can join in the warm up that takes place before each race.

If you fancy a kick-around, Albion in the Community will be there with their inflatable pitch complete with eagle eyed coaches to take future stars through their paces egged on by loveable mascot Gully.

Alibeads will be on site for anyone fancying a tumble down their slide, a leap around the inflatable castle, not to mention having their face painted.

Little Kickers can offer footy for the kids, the young at heart can dance the day away with StreetFunk, budding cricketers can bat and bowl under the eye of coaches from Sussex Cricket or if Zorbing’s your thing you can roll around to your heart’s content.

For the big day on Sunday 12 April, unique amongst the UK’s major marathons is Brighton’s free to enter Beach Village, brainchild of race director, Tom Naylor.

Open on race morning from 8.30am onwards next to the marathon and 10k finish on Madeira Drive, The Beach Village is an area of celebration, buzzing with thousands of runners and their supporters.

From the vantage point of a deck chair or picnic bench all the live action of the finish can be followed on the big screens here or from the Grandstand seating alongside the final 100m of the route.

The fantastic Street Diner team have a host of street food caterers offering mouth-watering food to pump much needed energy back into tired legs and lungs as well as hungry spectators.

All of this against a background of music, on-stage presentations and interviews making for a rewarding day whether you are with a runner, or just want to take in the amazing atmosphere at the Brighton Marathon weekend.
