Beautiful bridal looks for 2016
To celebrate our wedding special we teamed up with 7two9 photography, hair stylist Melodie Pope and MUA Alex Crown to try out four looks straight from the SS16 catwalk bridal trends.
ALEXANDRA
Melodie Pope: Softly blow-dried to create body and volume to fine, highlighted hair, with small detail at the back designed to disguise the tiara ends and to place small flowers for elegant detail at the back.
Products – mousse applied dry and blow-dried bouncy, setting each section to allow stronger volume. A fine but strong hairspray was used to secure position of the hair, none sticky.
Alex Crown: Here I focussed on accentuating Alexandra’s big beautiful blue eyes by sweeping a light dusky pinky rose-coloured eye shadow across the lids and added a little on lower lashes too, followed by lashings of (waterproof) mascara. For the foundation I used Chanel’s Vitalumiere in shade 20 and for the cheeks, I added a cream blush to keep the look fresh and modern. I added a glowing highlight on top of her cheekbones and gently contoured Alexandra’s cheeks with a bronzy blush. Eyebrows were lightly filled and as Alexandra had such naturally rosy red lips I just added a touch of Chanel Wild Rose lip gloss
Tip: Add a pop of shimmery champagne-coloured eye shadow in inner V corner of eye as this helps open them up.

MAIKA
Melodie: While going with the natural curl of the hair, soft curls were designed to enhance the Afro hair and allow the natural strength of it hold them in – pinning one side with a flower gently allows the bride to enhance any colour scheme they choose for their special day and connect the two together.
Products – serum was applied evenly to the hair and small sections were curled with a light hairspray being used on each section. Serum was used once curls were cool to break up the corkscrew effect.
Alex: For Maika I used a Bobbi Brown cream foundation stick in just the areas needed to even out her skin. I then added a light champagne-coloured eye shadow across the lids and applied a thin gel liner on the upper lids close to the lash line to accentuate Maika’s beautiful eyes. Black mascara was then added, with a highlighter on top of cheekbones, down the centre of the nose and on the Cupid’s bow and inner corner of eye. Her eyebrows were filled in slightly and groomed using a fine pencil by Mac. For the lips, I mixed a Mac coral lipstick with some gloss to keep the look simple but elegant.
Tip: Just be careful not to get a highlighter that’s too glittery for the skin, as this can look unnatural in daylight.

ALEXANDRA
Melodie: A soft French plait around the front of the head brings attention to the face and stronger make up can be applied; with soft, gentle barrel curls at the back this allows the veil to be placed securely and invisibly. A vintage sparkly comb brings a twinkle for the bride and brings the plait and barrel curls together.
Products – mousse applied dried and bouncy curls were blow-dried in the hair. A strong hairspray was used on each section as the barrel curls were placed at the back.
Alex: For a more modern take, I added a beautiful cream eye shadow in a bronzy colour across the lids and added some on the lower lash line. This gives a modern, smoky feel that’s not too heavy and great for the bride that wants a stronger look. For the lips, we added a deep pink lip liner in Disco by Topshop.
Tip: Cream shadows are amazing as they are long lasting and don’t budge – so are perfect for weddings and so easy to apply – you can just use your fingers but I’d recommend using a smallish brush for lower lash line.

MAIKA
Melodie: First curling the hair so that the natural curl is enhanced, the bride then had three separate ponytails down the back of her head, this is great on thick hair as it allows security, which is important to stay in place all day! Large pins were used to keep the positioning of wrapping hair around the ponytails and hair was secured back – this stops any unwanted frizz.
Products – Serum was applied on dry hair before curling, to maintain no frizz and a sleek curl was enhanced. A very light hairspray was used as the grips were placed and a light spray around the hairline to make sure all tiny hairs were covered, this also gives shine to Afro hair when applied correctly.
Alex: Maika has amazing lips, so a deep plum colour was added. Topshop lip liners come in great colours – this was called Deception. As the lips were strong I added just a little more eyeliner using Mac’s gel liner in ‘black track’ with an angled brush. I wanted the look to be clean and elegant and quite minimal.
