Brighton partied at the races

The inaugural Party at the Races took place over the weekend at Brighton Racecourse and was a resounding success as Basement Jaxx and co. treated those in attendance to a whole day of banging bass and dirty drops.

Despite a morning full of rain and cloud, the skies soon cleared and the day kicked-off with the Party in a Pod.

VIPs and press took to the sky in the British Airways i360, complete with backing beats to get everyone in the mood for the big day, as well as the popping of champagne bottles and some serious sights to behold at over 100 metres in the air.

Coaches then took everyone up to Brighton Racecourse where we were greeted by a collection of innovative drinks ‘stands’ and plenty of big beats.

We made our way initially over to the Source Tent, which was packed with live up-and-coming bands from around the county and enjoyed the soulful yet soothing sounds of Kudu Blue.

After making our way to the bar – via the tokens counter – we then headed to the main stand where we collected our betting chips and bet big on the day’s virtual racing, with a few winners and many losers.

Once the chips were all lost we headed inside to enjoy the work of Ross McCormack at the Connected Tent before making our way, somewhat blurry-eyed, back out to the Main Stage where Basement Jaxx were performing.

We loved every minute of it and in spite of the weather’s attempts to disrupt the day, the event was a massive success, with everybody leaving everything they had on the dance floor as they made the most of the last summer party.

From the jockey outfits to the big screen horse racing to the music and venue, this is definitely a festival which should be back in 2017.
