Komedia’s gay friendly club wins two prestigious awards

Zoe Lyons' Bent Double scoops two Chortle awards

Komedia’s monthly gay friendly comedy club, Bent Double, scooped two prestigious Chortle awards at an industry ceremony on last week.

Hosted by Brighton resident and television comic Zoe Lyons, Bent Double picked up awards for Best Club Night in the UK and the South.

Taking place at Komedia on the first Sunday of the month, Zoe Lyons started the club over 10 years ago and has seen it grow over years to be one of the most successful nights the venue runs.

She is not only the MC for every show but also hand picks the line-up so it appeals to Brighton’s gay crowd as well as regular comedy goers and Zoe was delighted to collect the award.

“I am so very delighted that Bent Double has won two awards at the recent Chortle Awards. I have run the gig for nearly ten years and I can honestly say I look forward to each and every show,” explains Zoe. “

We have built up such a loyal gay following over the years and I take great pleasure in knowing that the acts who perform at the shows rate the gigs and the audiences so highly. It is such a fun night, here is to the next ten years!”

Komedia Brighton was also pleased to hear that it picked up the award for Best Venue in the South for the twelfth time, whilst their sister venue in Bath scooped the Best Venue in the West and Wales.

The annual awards are chosen by Chortle readers, with 13,500 votes cast from a shortlist chosen by independent industry experts.
