Fancy a day of adrenaline-fuelled fun in the heart of West Sussex? Could YOU abseil down the side of Arundel Castle?!

Whether you’re a self-confessed thrill seeker or bona fide adventure junkie, Chestnut Tree House will be giving 400 people the chance to put their nerve to the test by abseiling down Arundel Castle!

In celebration of its 15th birthday in November, the Arundel-based children’s hospice will host two days of abseiling at the ancient site. On Friday September 28 and Saturday September 29, supporters will scale the 180ft Bake House Tower, helping to raise money for local life-limited children and their families.

For Linda Perry, director of children’s services at Chestnut Tree House, events such as these are the cornerstone of the charity’s success, as they have had to depend on the kindness of their supporters and the general public.

It costs over £3.5million every year to provide all of our specialist care services. We receive less than 7% funding from central government

“It costs over £3.5million every year to provide all of our specialist care services,” she says. “We receive less than 7% funding from central government, which means we rely heavily on the generosity of our local community. Quite simply, we could not have helped the 833 children and families we have over the last 15 years without their support.

“There are lots of events planned for 2018, but we are really excited to be able to offer people the chance to abseil down Arundel Castle. This is something very special, and we are extremely grateful to our president, Henry, Earl of Arundel and Surrey for making it happen.”

Launched in November 2003, Chestnut Tree House currently provides care and support to around 300 children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Sussex and South East Hampshire – both at the hospice, and in families’ own homes. Drawing on its close proximity to the popular attraction, Arundel Castle was a natural choice and the perfect setting for the exciting event.

“Not only is Arundel Castle one of West Sussex’s top visitor attractions, but it is just three miles from the hospice, so is the ideal venue for a special birthday challenge event,” continues Linda. “So, in our 15th year, let’s inspire everyone to live for the now, take on a challenge, and help us make every ‘now’ count.”
