Students struggle to save

We all know about the madness of freshers’ week; the nights out, new clothes, new friends to impress and parties to plan but, quite astoundingly, a new survey has revealed over a quarter of new students spend their entire student load within a few months of starting university.

Almost two-thirds (65%) also haven’t considered how they are going to pay off their student debt, according to a survey conducted by Nationwide FlexStudent.

With over 68% of the parents of students having to subsidise their children’s further education, and a further 16% borrowing money themselves or getting into debt to help pay their children’s fees, how can students manage their money better?

In the next issue of Title Sussex we’ll be looking at how freshers are able to manage their money more efficiently as they settle into life away from home for the first time.
