£150m regeneration plans revealed

Plans to regenerate Lewes Road’s Preston Barracks and the University of Brighton’s Moulscombe campus have been released and are expected to bring over 1,000 jobs into the area.

If approved by the council, the £150 million scheme is estimated to bring more than £500m into the local economy as well as 350 new homes, accommodation for 1,300 students, shops, cafes and a cutting-edge research laboratory.

The site, which has been derelict for more than 25 years, was bought by the city council in 2002 and council leader Warren Morgan said, “Preston Barracks has been on the drawing board for 14 years and it is a key site for new affordable housing for local people, jobs and growth.”
