Dancing on the deck at the Design for Print award launch!

To celebrate the launch of the Gemini Print & Brighton Fringe DESIGN for PRINT Award 2019, GM Jason Musk welcomed the judges and the Brighton Lindyhoppers to the terrace of the BAi360 West Beach Café and Bar.

With the ‘best views in town,’ everyone lindy-hopped the afternoon away to the sounds of the ‘30s. We don’t let a stiff breeze put us off, no indeed!

WHAT’S THIS ABOUT?

The annual Gemini Design for Print award is an established and respected scheme to recognise excellence in design and print, and is celebrated in conjunction with Brighton Fringe. Any performer, designer, or venue team offering activities or events as part of Brighton Fringe can enter – completely free – by emailing the fabulous artwork they’ve used for their printed promotion.

There’s a fat prize worth £500 for the winner, and the submissions are judged by a panel with some serious experience and clout in design, media, marketing and print expertise.

WHO IS JUDGING?

This year’s judges are Gemini Print group director Mark Tulley, Title Media managing editor Sam Harrington Lowe, Brighton Fringe marketing manager Darren Smallman, and Mosaic Creates managing director Laurie Griffiths (not pictured).

Gemini Print is the official print partner to the Brighton Fringe. Mark Tulley said, “As in previous years, the prize is £500 worth of quality printing; so the judges are looking for eye-catching and informative design. It’s brilliant design skills that really ensure you capitalise on the power and response that paper and print can drive.”

HOW COME YOU LOT GET TO DANCE?!

One of the many exciting events at the Brighton Fringe will be two magical ‘Brighton Swing Thing’ events at the Spiegeltent on 4 and 25 May. Magical afternoons, including a beginners swing dance plus a live band, dancing and performance by the Brighton Lindyhoppers. The troupe, led by Graeme and Amanda, teach fun and friendly swing dance classes every weekday evening in Brighton and Hove. So what better way to celebrate the awards launch than to have a crack at it ourselves?!
