20 Sussex things to do with the kids at Easter
Easter holidays are a mixed blessing, right?
Good to spend some time with your beloved offspring, but still… responsibility for Easter shenanigans plus boredom equals pressure. Rimante Boguzaite solves some of your ‘what to do’ problems…
1. FISHERS FARM PARK, WISBOROUGH GREEN
Spring into Easter at Fishers Farm Park on the Easter Weekend (15-16 April). Easter Egg Hunt all around the farm and help to name the fluffy chicks in the ‘Name the chick’ competition.
2. KNOCKHATCH ADVENTURE PARK, HAILSHAM
Always loads to do at Knockhatch, like rides, nature trail, boating, birds of prey displays, and go-karts. Check out the Easter Egg Hunt at Knockhatch Adventure Park (14-17 April)
3. SPRING BARN FARM, LEWES
Baby lambs and Easter eggs are on every day of the Easter Holiday at Spring Barn Farm (1-21 April). Pick up your egg box, and find all the clues ready to exchange for a yummy chocolatey treat in the Cock-a-Doodle Den! Visit the lambing barn to meet the cutest new arrivals.
4. BODIAM CASTLE, ROBERTSBRIDGE
Calling all brave knights and dragon hunters! Rangers have found some unusual eggs and after expert examination they believe they’re dragons’ eggs. Find the eggs to save the castle from a fiery end and receive a delicious Cadbury treat. Also – archery lessons and walks with birds of prey at Bodiam Castle (1 March – 17 April)
5. LEWES CASTLE, LEWES
Handle real dinosaur bones and make clay dinosaur footprints or scary dragons to take home at Lewes Castle (13 April)
6. FISHBOURNE ROMAN PALACE, CHICHESTER
Explore the Roman gardens with egg treasure hunt and try springtime crafts at the Fishbourne Roman Palace (17-21 April)
7. HOVE MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY, HOVE
Make fluffy chicks and colourful eggs in this art and craft based workshop at the Hove Museum and Art Gallery (11, 13, 18, 20 April)
8. BATTLE ABBEY, BATTLE (Nr HASTINGS)
Meet a Medieval monk, climb the gatehouse to the rooftop and have a lovely picnic at the Easter Adventure Quest in the Battle Abbey (14-17 April)
9. BRIGHTON PIER, BRIGHTON
There’s always loads to do on the pier and it’s a great way to lose a whole day, but look out for the egg hunt, games and face painting at the Brighton Pier (15-17 April)
10. REDOUBT FORTRESS, EASTBOURNE
Can you find the Redoubt Rabbit hiding in the fortress and create spring crafts at the Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum? (1-16 April)
11. GO APE ADVENTURE PARK, CRAWLEY
Zip-trek, swing down the trees like Tarzan and enjoy beautiful nature at Go Ape Tree Top Adventure. Put down those phones and get crazy in the trees for a bit!
12. SOUTH DOWNS PLANETARIUM, CHICHESTER
Anyone interested in stargazing will know about this place already – it’s even got a life size wax Patrick Moore who is quite alarmingly real! Take the chance to look at the spring night sky and see the stars at the South Downs Planetarium (14 April)
13. ARUNDEL WETLANDS, ARUNDEL
Use your special detective skills to help Dusty Duck find his lost friends at the Arundel Wetland Centre (8 -23 April)
14. ARUNDEL CASTLE, ARUNDEL
Raven Tor Living History Group will be recreating the crafts, weapons training, and battle tactics of the late 12th century. Storytelling, falconry, have-a-go-archery (over 8s) and archery/combat demonstrations fill the weekend, with the sights, sounds and smells of the late Normans. Arundel Castle (15- 17 April)
15. TREASURE HUNT, CHICHESTER/WEST SUSSEX
Explore the town with a self-guided treasure hunt. Solve the sneaky clues and discover the buried treasure in Chichester, but there’s also options for Arundel, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Worthing, Shoreham and loads more.
16. DRUSILLAS PARK, ALFRISTON
