King Alfred redevelopment plans revealed
Hove businessman Rob Starr has been selected to rebuild the King Alfred Leisure Centre site alongside house builders Crest Nicholson.
Under the proposals, the current building will be demolished and replaced by a £40m sports centre and 560 flats, 20% of which will be ‘affordable housing’.
The council will put £8m towards the sports centre, which will include three swimming pools, a 120-station gym, a sports hall, three-rink indoor bowls, a sauna and a café.
The decision concludes three years of discussions over the 1930s site and with building work set to begin next summer, the sports centre is due to be complete within three years and accompanying flats finished by 2022.
