The collaboration of the old and the new – the Festival of Chichester 2023
The Festival of Chichester opened with an experience “Beyond this World” at Chichester Cathedral
The Festival of Chichester, held between June and July, is a month-long celebration of the arts. Held in the historic city of Chichester, audiences can enjoy anything from classical concerts to poetry talks. This year, the audience were able to experience a magical opening.
On a warm evening, the audience experienced a truly amazing performance of new and old music. Celebrating all realms of melodies. This event was an assembly of the Bernardi Music Group and friends and students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
Throughout the show they performed alongside George Morton’s stunning chamber arrangement of Gustav Holst’s stellar masterpiece The Planets, conducted by Nic Pendlebury.
The importance of the opening
The opening of the Festival of Chichester reflected Holst’s resting place, as well as some of his most famous work. To honour him, the musicians performed some of his music reflecting the stars and planets.
This large-scale programme brought together family, friends, and businesses from across the county, as well as all that Chichester is celebrated for. Whether that is pioneering new art in the form of performance, or paintings in the Cathedral, Theatre, and Pallant Gallery. Businesses such as the Toovey Auctioneers and NFU Mutual were able to be a part of the event.
