Top tips for the new term

As the new school term begins and you find your child moving to senior school, it can be a time of mixed emotions.

They will be surrounded by many new faces, including new teachers and classmates, and will have to learn to become independent.

To help parents guide their kids through this ‘fitting in’ stage, Farlington School’s Headmistress Louise Higson has put together her top tips on helping them become more self-reliant.

The keys, she says, are to be relaxed by their and not panic if they don’t adjust straight away as it can take time.

Also, encourage your children to take homework seriously as well as making new friends, as this will help them open up. Finally, encourage your children to relax and be positive. If you follow these steps the transition can be a happy one.
