Sussex legend bids to become Vice-President

Murray Goodwin is one of three nominees to become Vice-Presidents of Sussex County Cricket Club, at tonight’s AGM (Thursday 19^th March). Another former player Tony Buss, and current Board Member Dick Holste MBE, are also up for nomination.

Sussex CCC Chairman, Jim May, said “All three have made notable contributions to Sussex Cricket and I am sure that their nominations will be popular.” 

Goodwin, who left Sussex in 2012, is regarded as one of the club’s greatest ever batsmen, with over 24,000 runs for Sussex in all formats across 12 seasons, including nearly 14,500 first class runs with 48 centuries and an average approaching 50.

Murray helped Sussex win seven trophies including the County Championship, for the first three times, and holds the highest individual score for Sussex of 344 not out. 

Buss played 310 first-class matches for Sussex, taking an impressive 958 wickets in the process during a 16-year career. He also managed 140 wickets in List A cricket and was a member of the side that won the inaugural Gillette Cups in 1963 and 1964.

Tony was a great servant for Sussex and was coach and then manager after he retired from playing.

Holste was first elected to the Sussex Committee in 1997 and served as Honorary Treasurer. Dick has been heavily involved in recreational cricket and is currently an umpire.
